Teaching in
Canada
We have
compiled a concise guide to the process of becoming an overseas teacher in
Canada. We hope this helps you on your way!
In order to work in Canada as a Teacher:
Teachers
wishing to immigrate to Canada and seek employment in the public schools
must meet all the requirements made of teachers moving within Canada.
Teacher qualifications must be submitted to the teacher certification
body in the province or territory of application.
In addition,
there are requirements specifically pertaining to immigrants. It should
be particularly noted that most provinces and territories require
evidence of Landed Immigrant Status if the applicant is not a Canadian
citizen. An important requirement for teachers coming from abroad is
proficiency in one of Canada's official languages - English or French.
It should be noted that English is the language of instruction in the
majority of schools in all provinces and territories with the exception
of Quebec.
